Energy Saving Tips

People often want to make a positive impact on the environment but, are unsure where to start. The easiest and one of the most impactful ways is to simply change a few of your daily habits where you live! The following list will provide energy saving tips that anyone can make to start having a positive impact on the world around them.

1.

Shorter showers and lower water temperatures.

You can save up to 1.5 kWh for every minute you shorten a shower and reduce the temperature

2.

Full loads and cold water

Make sure you are doing laundry with full loads and use the cold water settings, often listed as delicate, rather than using warm or hot water. This will also lengthen the lifetime of your clothes!

3.

Plug it in, turn it off

Plug your electronics into a power strip and turn it off when they're not in use to prevent vampire electricity. If you do not have a power strip, then simply unplug your electronics when they are not in use.

4.

Let the light in!

Rather than rely on lights at all hours of the day, use natural light for as long as possible in order to reduce the amount of time lights are on.

5.

Dress for the season

During the winter, lower your AC temperature and wear layers in order to reduce HVAC usage.

6.

Air dry clothes

It may take longer but, it costs less directly to your pocket and indirectly via emissions produced by air drying clothing instead of using a conventional dryer.

7.

Turn off your lights!

A simple yet often neglected action to reduce energy usage; turn off your lights if the room they're on in is not in use.
